Marion Street has become increasingly unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. Local residents have raised concerns about speeding, poor visibility, and a lack of safe crossing points - especially at intersections.
Since being elected, I’ve made it a priority to tackle local safety issues head-on. I’ve listened to residents, visited the site, and spoken with Councillors and the relevant Ministers about the urgent need for action on Marion Street.
The NSW Labor Government approved funding for the Marion & Manahan Street intersection. Through all three levels of government working together the intersection was funded for $220,000 under the 2024–25 Australian Government Blackspot Program. This will enhance safety at the existing roundabout by installing a raised threshold, pedestrian refuge and improving turning angles. Works will commence shortly.
Right now, I am working with my local and Federal colleagues to prioritise design and funding for meaningful safety upgrades but we need to demonstrate strong community support to make this a top priority.
